The Ordinary Skincare

Am I late to the hype or what? Back in the Philippines I desperately wanted to try out some goodies from The Ordinary while they were still hot off the press but due to everything not already on the island so inaccessible, I had to wait until I moved to Canada to place an order. Oh well. Better late than never.

If you’ve been on their website, you know how overwhelming it is. As someone who doesn’t know too much about skincare ingredients (although I am on my way to being much more informed), it was a real head scratcher trying to understand what each term meant.

I think I definitely played it safe with my purchases this time, only because I was overwhelmed with so many options. On my next order though, I’ll be a little bit more ~adventurous~ and try some other well loved products such as the Alpha Lipoic Acid 5% and the Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%.

I wanted to really test out the products to see the full effects they would have on my skin, which is why it took me far too long to publish this post. So with that being said, I did purchase these around 14 months ago and have fully tried, tested, and formed my thoughts on them.

glycolic acid 7% toning solution

A toner is pretty much an essential to my skincare routine, so this was the first thing I added to my basket. I’m so pleasantly surprised with the amount of product in the bottle! They were definitely very generous and for $8.70 CAD, you get 240 ml of product.

I went into trying the product knowing that my skin might purge as I’ve read a few reviews mentioning this. Thankfully, my skin didn’t do anything crazy. A noticeable difference the toning solution made was how soft my face was. After a week, I was literally stroking my face at random times during the day… My skin is a little sensitive, and it’s worth noting that my face tingles a bit when I apply the Glycolic Acid toning solution.

Thanks to this toner, my face has noticeably been much more smoother. It’s like it wiped away all the texture on my face! Something I’ve been struggling with is texture and hyper pigmentation so I’m very happy it got rid of half my skin issues. I’ve been using this a lot less now, however I did use it regularly when I first got it. The bottle is almost all used up – would I repurchase? absolutely!

Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG

My eyebags need all the help they can get so I was definitely cheering this one on… The Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG is exactly what it’s called. It contains a high concentration of caffeine and a “highly-purified Epigallocatechin Gallatyl Glucoside (EGCG) from green tea leaves.”

On another note, I do love how they name their products based off of the main ingredient. It’s something I’ve never seen before and its refreshing to see brands stepping out of the norm!

Back to the serum, it’s in a glass bottle with a dropper making it super easy and mess free to apply. I drop a tiny amount on the back of my hand and massage it around the eyes every morning and night. I think this is definitely one of those products you have to be patient with. 3 weeks in, the puffiness around my eyes were gone but there were no major changes that impressed me unfortunately. It did help minimize my dark circles, but not enough to make me want to buy the product again.

There’s a Deciem that opened earlier this year at Metropolis in Burnaby – my next purchase will be at the store, I’m looking forward to trying out more of their products!
